Diary of a magazine startup: ep. 2

I went to see my developer yesterday, Milo Creative. They are the brains behind the Ladybird Me books.

We discussed tweaks to my magazine’s website, which will be launching very soon together with the blog. Having experience of The Daily Mum, I know the magazine’s blog is going to be hard hard work. It’ll need feeding everyday.

I will be using social media a lot. Hopefully, some kind of buzz will happen. But that one viral hit is like writing a hit song, and instead of aiming for hitting ‘Fenton the Dog’ fever pitch, I’ll just concentrate on making good content.

The company I find most fascinating right now with all things digital in fashion is Burberry. It’s not afraid to experiment and to try things out. Last season it had a tweetwalk, resulting in #burberry trending worldwide.

Had I known about Burberry’s Pinterest page, it would have gone into a piece I wrote for the Independent. If you read mother.wife.me, who did a lovely ginormous post about my Pinterest feature, you’ll know that it’s a subject I’m currently following with much interest. Partly due to my own obsession – I’ve curbed my pinning time to 1 hour a day.

Burberry’s boards are fantastic. They have the expected ‘here are our latest products’ boards, but the ones I like are London By Burberry and Burberry Weather. All instagram-tastic.

  1. very interesting to see pinterest getting so
    much coverage. I’ve been using it for work and personal use since last year and no one knew what I was going on about! It was almost a secret for a while, which I secretly enjoyed! However it’s great watching the “penny drop” with everyone and seeing the excitement grow.

      I’m very interested in how people use pinterest for work. Do you use it as a moodboard?

      • Ha ha a pioneer! I guess so
        I have many a mood board in working 42 to be precise on my HPMcQ account. I also have two accounts now too as some stuff I like to squirrell away. I can spend hours trawling through looking for inspiration. I spent a whole week in Delhi last August with two of my assistants where I introduced them to pinterest and each evening we didn’t talk as too busy pinning! Just the occasional grunt/nod of ooooo that’s nice, to what they had just pinned hilarious! iPhone app is positively dangerous too.

        • That is hilarious! 42 is a lot of moodboards too!
          It is hugely addictive. And so easy to use.

    And thanks for leading me to the Burberry Pinterest boards, there’s a brand who are using them brilliantly – I am some / many won’t be so clever, as they rush to get Pinterest-ing.

    I’ve re-pinned the griffin shot onto my Urban Beauty board, as it is like a sister image to one my husband took in Victoria Park – I was so excited that they are so similar that I had to ring him and tell him… addicted to Pinterest, me, naaaa…
