Time for a quick read

Guess what? I’ve just finished reading Anna Karenina. And I can confirm the rumours. It is truly one of the greatest love stories ever with an ending that packs an emotional punch.

At a whopping 800-something pages, it took me about a month to complete. In the midst of work and family duties, finding the time to read is a challenge. There’s always dishes to be washed, laundry to dry and children’s homework to check. Oh, and there’s a full-time day job to do too. Then once all that is out of the way, I’m too tired to even force my eyes open for the 10 o’clock news.

It’s a sad state of affairs.

And to top it all off, I’ve just entered the third trimester and my energy levels are flagging. So another Anna Karenina is not the sort of book I am looking for.

Enter Galaxy Quick Reads, a campaign looked after by Richmond Mummyshe’s just gone back to work after a year’s maternity leave and this is her first main project.

“Quick Reads are a range of fast-paced, easy to read, bite-sized books by bestselling authors and celebrities.  They are designed to ignite passion for reading and are widely used as a resource with people who find reading tough, or for those who may simply believe they’re too busy for books.  These are not abridged versions of existing novels, they are all new stories and include fiction and non-fiction alike, and are priced at an incredibly reasonable £1.99.”

There are 12 authors lined up this year and the three books I’ve requested are: Full House by Maeve Binchy, The Cleverness of Ladies by Alexander McCall Smith and The Little One by Lynda La Plante.

I can’t wait for them to arrive!

  1. Blimey! Kudos on finishing the book. I was tired just reading through the list of stuff you get through in a day – and then you threw in the bit about the third trimester!

    • it is a great book. you must try it if you haven’t already. turned out to be a much easier read than i expected.
but after such a hefty book, i’m going for a few short/quick reads before another heavy hitter
